Red & White Mix Fancy Goldfish

Fancy Fantail Goldfish are a very friendly and active variety of goldfish (carassius auratus) and thrive in cold to temperate community aquaria. Slow swimmers, very condusive to a peaceful aquarium environment, fancy goldfish are ideal tankmates around smaller shoaling fish such as danios or white cloud mountain minnows.

The colouration of red and white fancy goldfish is a random mixture of red, orange and white - some colours may be more prominent. The photograph is for illustrative purposes only and may differ to that which you receive.

Can I keep Fantail Fancy Goldfish in a garden pond?
Red & white fancy goldfish, like most fantail goldfish, are not typical goldfish, and require a more temperate environment than common goldfish. They will not thrive or survive easily in extreme cold, and ideally need a temperature of 16°C or above, so are more suited to indoor aquaria kept at room temperature. You can keep them in outdoor ponds during the warmer spring and summer months, but it is recommended that they are brought back indoors when the colder weather arrives.

Can you keep Fancy Goldfish with Common Gold Fish?
Yes, you can quite happily keep common comet goldfish with fancy goldfish, as well as other coldwater species. Fancy goldfish are a slower swimming species, so care must be taken to ensure they are not out-competed for food by faster-swimming species. The growth rate may also differ, but this is often a result of being beaten to food by other, faster fish.

Ease of care
Easy. They tend to grow quite large over time, so an aquarium of 35L or more per fancy goldfish is a wise choice. They also produce a lot of waste, so a decent filtration system will help promote a healthy environment. We do not recommend keeping goldfish in bowls or similar unfiltered aquaria.

Compatibility
Fancy goldfish are compatible with virtually all coldwater community fish. Take care not to house with very small fish once fully grown, as they tend to eat whatever fits in their mouth.

Diet
Omnivorous. Feed goldfish flake or pellets - high protein feed will help promote growth. Fancy goldfish will also graze on coldwater plants like elodea.

Breeding

Egg layers. Breeding is more common when kept in groups.

Life Span
Fancy Fantail Goldfish goldfish can live 5+ years in perfect conditions.
